March 2005

10 March, Tusker Kenya Open, 1st Round 71 (+1)
Normally a par 72 but they are calling two 520 yard par fives, par 4's for the week. It has been windy and along with the altitude we are playing at it, has made it difficult to pick clubs. Got off to a great start with an eagle 2 at my third hole, the par 4 12th. Hit a driver to 10 feet and rolled the putt in. Pared the next before bogeys on 14, 15 and 18 meant I reached the turn at 1 over. Nine straight pars on the front nine, my back nine and I was round in 71, 1 over. Didn't make a single birdie today which is disappointing. Played ok, but did not taking advantage of par 5s and my wedges. Putted ok but still not really making any. David

11 March, Tusker Kenya Open, 2nd Round 73 (+3)
Shot 3 over 73 today. I should have made the cut on the mark or by one. Poor, I'm playing to make cut too much and need to just play. Didn't get off to the best of starts with a bogey at the first but a birdie at the long par 4 3rd got me back on track. Made a bad double at the 6th to reach the turn at 2 over-par. Bogeyed the 13th, before a birdie 2 at the next got one shot back. Took 6 up the last on a reachable par 5 to shoot 3 over for the day. Only two birdies in two days is not ideal. David

12 March, Tusker Kenya Open, 3rd Round 70 (Ev)
Played ok but too many sloppy shots, including dropping three shots in last five holes. Birdied first hole then pared all the way to the 9th where I made bogey to go out in level par for the day. Eagled the par 4 12th for the second time and it looks like I have won the 10 000 Kenya Shillings on offer for first eagle on 12 during this week. This time I hit a cut driver to 3ft. Bogeys on 14, 15 and 17 were disappointing before a birdie at the last got me back to level for the day. There is a shootout later which I might play, but not sure yet. David

13 March, Tusker Kenya Open, 4th Round 68 (-2)

Played really well today, but some shocking putting cost me a top ten. Felt a 63/64 was there for the taking. Got off to another great start with birdies at the first three holes. Made a very unlucky bogey on 7 and then missed from 3ft on 8 before three putts on 9 cost me my second bogey. Birdied 10, 12 and 13, but then three more putts on 14 for another bogey. Then hit my only poor iron today on 16 which cost me bogey. Played reachable par 5 last poorly and made par. Good round but case of what could have been. Needed top 5 to play in Madeira so disappointing to finish so poorly. David
