April 2005
28 April, Peugeot Challenge, 1st Round 75 (+3)
Started at the 10th today and got off to a great start with a birdie at
my first hole. Followed that up with another birdie at the 13th and was
2 under-par after 5 holes. Two holes later though I was 2 over -par after
going bogey, triple bogey. That started a run where I had five 5's and
the triple bogey 7 in a seven hole stretch. Birdied the 8th my penultimate
hole to get one of the shots back but finished 3 over-par for the day.
Disappointing after such a good start. It is a difficult golf course with
hard fast undulating greens. I drove the ball poorly today, hitting it
left all day, but my irons were pretty good. Have a new putter this week
and a new routine and all in all my putting held up pretty well. Got unlucky
a few times but that's golf. David.
29 April, Peugeot Challenge, 2nd Round 75 (+3)
Had a horrific start to my round and was 5 over after the opening 4 holes.
Things did not improve when I made another bogey at the 6th. Just hit
some terrible shots and made a lot of bad decisions. I didn't give up
and battled the rest of the way, but was struggling with hitting the ball
way left all the time. Got a few shots back around the turn with a birdie
on the 9th and then holed my sandwedge approach at the 10th for eagle!
Was able to make another birdie on the 15th when I hit my sandwedge stiff
for a tap in birdie. Eventually ended up shooting 3 over-par 75 for the
second day running. The cut mark will be five or six over so we will have
to wait and see. Work on range awaits. David.
30 April, Peugeot Challenge, 3rd Round
73 (+1)
Course was playing a bit tougher today, with the greens quicker and the
wind blowing harder. I played good though apart from a couple of wrong
clubs cost me shots. Also made two bogeys from inside 90 yards on back
nine which is not good. Missed countless very make able putts, mainly
for birdie. Frustrating not to take advantage. Kept it going though and
ended up shooting only 1 over-par 73, which considering the conditions
was one of the better scores of the day. David
