September 2004
9 September, Telia Grand Prix 1st Round 69 (-2)
Shot 69, two under-par today. Played well all day although it
was in perfect conditions. Only had a couple of loose shots but drove
the ball well and mentally much better. A couple of solid pars to start
with were followed by a birdie at the short par 4 3rd. Went birdie, bogey
twice today which is very annoying. Birdied the 9th but followed that
with a bogey on 10, which I repeated at 14 and 15. Still, I managed a
good birdie at the par 5 last to shoot 2 under. Going for some lunch then
off for some short game practice as it was not too good today. David
10 September, Telia Grand Prix 2nd Round 73 (+2)
Ended up shooting 73 today, such a waste. I was three under after eight
holes which included a double bogey at my third hole, the 12th. I then
had bogeys at next two with wedge in hands and taking three both times
from fringe. A couple of pars followed then another double bogey at the
par three 4th after leaving a basic bunker shot still in sand. Played
pretty good but short game and wedge play is still very poor. Was right
in tournament after the 8 holes but let it slip. Need to get off to a
good start tomorrow and move myself back up the leaderboard. David
11 September, Telia Grand Prix 3rd Round 71 (Ev)
Level par 71 today. It was ideal scoring conditions but it was impossible
for me to score any worse. Bogeyed my opening two holes but birdies on
4 and 6 got me back to level for the day. Ten straight pars followed before
a bogey on 17 but again I got the dropped shot back with a good birdie
at the last. Drove the ball really well and my irons were solid but not
as sharp as I needed them to be. Again my wedge play and short game were
their usual poor self, missed the world with most of them. Have to start
making birdies not bogeys with my wedges. David
12 September, Telia Grand Prix 4th Round 75 (+4)
Round in 75 today, 4 over. It was blowing a gale all day which made club
selection very difficult. Did not play badly but everything was a bit
loose. Bogeyed 4, 5, and 9 to reach the turn at 3 over then made double
bogey at the 12th for the second time this week. Birdied the 15th before
for the second day running I finished bogey, birdie. A lost ball and one
in the water during the round did not help matters but my putter was colder
than something really, really cold. Short game was also still a bit iffy.
A bit of a waste as a couple under could have moved me up a long way.

23 September, Open De Toulouse 1st Round 72 (Ev)
72 level par today. I haven't been feeling that great lately but today
I felt a million times better than yesterday. Struggled off the tee all
day with only one fairway hit but I was never in trouble. I was a lot
more patient today and my wedge play was also much better. Started my
round with 9 solid pars, not the most exciting but no shots dropped. Started
the back nine in great fashion with birdies at 10 and 11 before I made
a very soft bogey at the drivable par 4 12th hole. Another soft dropped
shot went at the par 3 16th where I pulled the wrong club for my tee shot.
That took me back to level par for the day and 2 pars to finish with and
I was round in 72. It was a bit blustery all day so not a bad score considering
how I have been feeling. David
24 September, Open De Toulouse 2nd Round
As I said yesterday, I've not been feeling that great this week
but I woke up this morning feeling like death warmed up. I don't think
I've ever felt this bad before. Went to the golf course but was feeling
so bad that I decided to pull out off the event. Very, very disappointing
but I was going to be doing myself more harm than good by playing. David
30 September, Estoril Challenge Open Portugal Telecom 1st Round
82 (+11)
Shot 82 today in very windy conditions but still horrific. Four 3 putts
in first nine plus a double and a quad on two par threes. Started at the
10th with one of those three putts for bogey but got the shot straight
back with a birdie at the short par 4 11th. Then my par 3 troubles took
over. Doubled the first one the 12th and then made a 7 on the 14th. Another
drop shot on the 18th and I made the urn at 7 over par 42. Got tired on
my back nine and 4 more bogeys followed to be round in 11 over-par 82.
Don’t think I found centre of club face once all day. Greens were
horrific, the slowest and worst of the year but I suppose it is the same
for everyone. David
