June 2004
3 June, Nykredit Danish Open, 1st Round, 69(-2)
Shot 69, 2 under-par today. Played pretty good. Got off to a good solid
start after having the last few weeks off. Pared the opening 5 holes before
I made a disappointing bogey on the long par 4 6th. Got the dropped shot
back at the par 3 8th and made the turn at level par. Started the back
nine well with a good birdie on 10 but 3 putted the next to give the shot
right back. Birdied the par 5 13th but again I gave the shot back with
a 3 putt on the 15th. Finished my round well with birdies on 16 and 17
before a solid par on the par 3 18th hole. Only light breeze today so
conditions were ideal for scoring. Good course management and patience
today that were rewarded in the end. off to hit some balls and get a bite
to eat. David
4 June, Nykredit Danish Open, 2nd Round, 70(-1)
One under-par 70 today. A round that could have been a whole lot better.
Made a good start again but had a horrible middle but then got it going
again and had a great finish. Started on the 10th today and again pared
my opening 5 holes but this time I made a birdie on the 16th, my 6th hole.
Birdied the 17th for the second day running to get to two under but then
things started to go wrong. I bogeyed the 18th to make the turn at one
under and then started the front nine with three bogies in the first 4
holes to drop to 2 over par for the day and level for the tournament.
I was hitting the ball well but just not getting the breaks but then things
started to turn for the better and I finished my round very strongly.
I birdied the 5th and 6th holes and despite a dropped shot at the 7th
I birdied my final two holes of the day to shoot 1 under-par 70. A bit
disappointing to only shoot 1 under with 6 birdies but I played pretty
well throughout so I'm happy with that. Sitting in the top 10 so in a
good position to make a challenge over the weekend. David
5 June, Nykredit Danish Open, 2nd Round, 78(+7)
Not much to say about today. Shot seven over-par 78 and didn't
make a single birdie all day. Everything in the bag was a little off but
scored terrible. Made a solid par at the first and that was about it for
the day. Bogeyed my the next three holes to go three over, then couldn't
make any putts over the next few holes to stay three over at the turn.
The back nine was just as bad. Bogeyed the 11th before dropping more shots
on 15, 16 and 17. A par at the last and I was round in 78 and dropping
down the leaderboard. Nothing went right today and with around a half
dozen horseshoes it was always going to be difficult to score. At the
end off the day I have dropped to fiftieth. Will try to forget about
today and have a good score tomorrow. David
6 June, Nykredit Danish Open, 4th Round, 68 (-3)
What a difference a day makes. After yesterday's disaster today went very
well and I ended up shooting 3 under-par 68 with only one dropped shot
all day. I played really solid all through the round and it was pleasing
to cut out all the mistakes from yesterday. Got off to a solid start with
6 straight pars then had a run off five consecutive 3's around the turn.
I birdied the 7th, 9th and 10th with two pars on the 8th and 11th holes.
Parred the 12th before my only bad hole off the day with a poor bogey
6 at the par 5 13th. Steadied the ship after that with 4 straight pars
before a great birdie 2 on the final hole. It was a bit more breeze today
but my game was a lot tighter and it was great to finish with a low round
to give me more confidence to take into my next event. David
10 June, Segura Viudas Challenge de España, 1st Round,
74(+2)
Shot 74, two over today. Actually played ok most of the day but scored
terrible. I putted woefully and mentally poor. Got off to a great start
with birdies on the 3rd and 4th to be two under after four. Dropped a
shot at the par 3 5th with a 3 putt and then hit it out of bounds on the
par 5 6th and made double bogey. Got one of those shots back with a birdie
at the 8th but yet again I gave the shot straight back with a bogey on
the 9th to eventually reach the turn in one over-par. Had 5 straight pars
on the back nine before a good birdie 2 on the 15th got me back to level
for the day. Parred the next before a bad club choice that got a flier
cost me another double bogey on the 17th. Parred the last to be round
in 2 over-par 74. Not the best of days score wise so hopefully I can play
just as well tomorrow, putt a bit better and get back up the leaderboard.
Off to get a bite to eat and then some practice. David.
11 June, Segura Viudas Challenge de España, 2nd Round, 71(-1)
Shot 71, one under-par today but it was still not good enough to make
the weekend. My total of 1 over 145 for the two rounds was 5 shots to
many as the cut came at 4 under-par 140. I gave myself an outside chance
but let things slip with a horrendous last five holes. I had been playing
well all day but seemed to hit the wall when I stood on the 14th tee.
Then the harder I tried the worse things got. Very disappointed not to
be playing the final two rounds as I think I'm playing better than my
scores suggest but that's golf sometimes. Hopefully I can keep my good
play going into my next event and with a bit more luck play all four rounds.

17 June, Aa St Omer Open, 1st Round, 72(+1)
Shot 72, one over-par for my opening round today. Should have been so
much better and it was such a waste to finish on that number. It was blowing
a hoolie as we say back home. Got off to a great start and was three under
par after a birdie on the par 5 7th. Had earlier birdied the 3rd and 5th
holes. Dropped a shot at the 8th but got it straight back with a birdie
at the 9th to make the turn at 3 under-par. Started the back nine solidly
with three pars but then I dropped four shots last six without doing a
lot wrong. Bogeyed the 13th and 15th holes before a very disappointing
Double at the last. Hit what I thought was a good drive but it ended up
in a bad lie, so not that happy. One over is still a decent score but
should have been so much better. Putted poorly. Thinking and patience
was good right up until the end. David
18 June, Aa St Omer Open, 2nd Round, 75(+4)
Three over-par 75 today. Very poor in just about everything. Started on
the 10th and before I knew where I was, I was 3 over par after 3 holes.
Bogeyed the 10th followed by a double on the 12th. Further bogeys came
on 17 and 18 to reach the turn in 4 over-par 40! Things were not looking
good when I bogeyed the 3rd to drop to 5 over for the day but two late
birdies on 6 and 7 should see me safe on cut mark and in for the weekend.
It was such a poor start and I never got going but was pleased to finish
my round on a positive. Again I was very poor with the blade so it's off
to the putting green to see if I can find my stroke for the last two rounds.

19 June, Aa St Omer Open, 3rd Round, 76 (+5)
Not much better today with a 5 over-par round of 76. Played complete and
utter rubbish all day. Less windy today but did not hit one good shot
all day. Five bogeys and no birdies and I was not in any trouble to cause
the five dropped shots. Bogeys came on 3, 4 and 8 on the way out and 13
and 17 on the back nine. They all came down to three, 3 putts and two
shortish par putts missed. I never looked close to making a birdie. Very
down on myself all day, must have got out wrong side of bed at 5am. Everything
just felt disconnected. Hopefully I can have a good score tomorrow to
round the week off. David
20 June, Aa St Omer Open, 4th Round, 72(+1)
One over 72 today. Played solid but hard work. Putting was atrocious.
I missed seven putts inside the crucial six to eight feet mark including
a couple of short ones. Had three birdies, three bogeys and three pars
on the front nine but bogeyed 13 and 15 on way in before a nice birdie
2 on the 17th left me at 1 over for the round and 11 over for the tournament.
I have struggled with the swing last few days. Set up feels sloppy and
swing feels very disconnected. Looking forward to a week off. Rest, practice
and gym should sort me out. David
