September 2003

4 September, BA CA Golf Open, 1st Round 70 (-2)
Played really solid today considering this was my first tournament in a while. Greens are very difficult to read and are running around 12 on the stimp meter, so they are very fast as well. I started on the 10th today and got off to a great start. I hit it stiff at the opening two holes for birdies, then birdied the par 4 14th to get to 3 under. Missed the green on the par 3 17th and took 3 more shots to get down for my first bogey. I then three putted the 18th for par after hitting the green in 2 shots to make the turn in 2 under. Got the shot back on the first hole, my tenth with a good birdie. Pared the next seven holes until I took 6 on my last hole, the par 5 9th. The easiest hole on the course. One over par for the par 5's is not good. Missed some good chances and not the best pleased with the way I finished. Off for some lunch and then some time on the practice range. David

5 September, BA CA Golf Open, 2nd Round 74 (+2)
Very disappointing today. My mental side of the game was terrible and it looks like I may miss the cut by a single shot. Struggled all day. In the first 7 holes I found the water 3 times. After a par at the first I doubled the par 5 second. Got one of the shots back with a good birdie on the 5th and things were starting to look a bit better. It did not last as I made my second double bogey of the round on the long par 3 7th. Made the turn at 3 over then as hard as I tried on the back nine I couldn't get anything going. Finally made a birdie at the 18th to get back to level par for the tournament, but the cut looks like being at 1 under. It was just one of those days. I missed 4 birdie putts of inside 5 feet and to round things off I had a stone cold top as well. A day to forget. David.

11 September, Northern Ireland Masters, 1st Round 76(+5)
A disappointing day on the course today. It has to go down as one of my most up and down rounds I've ever played. I only made 4 pars all day! My game was great one moment and then terrible the next. To make 6 birdies and still shoot 5 over was very disappointing. Got off to a great start with a birdie on the first hole and a good solid par at the second, then things went crazy. The next four holes were bogey, double bogey, bogey, birdie. I eventually made the turn in 3 over. The back nine was just the same. I doubled both the 10th and 11th holes, but then birdied three out of the next 4. I was just so inconsistent. Birdied the 18th to shoot 5 over. Have to look at the positives for the day and I was pleased with the way I hung in there and tried to make the best score possible. Going off to the range to try and fix a few faults. Hopefully tomorrow I can get off to a good start and make as many birdies without all those dropped shots. David

12 September, Northern Ireland Masters, 2nd Round 67(-4)
Played well today and had my chances to shoot a really low number. Was a lot more consistent and didn't make quite as many mistakes. Started at the 10th hole today and again made a good start with birdies at four of the opening 6 holes. Pared the next three holes to reach the turn in 4 under and 1 over for the tournament. On my back nine I gave myself some great chances on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes but was unable to convert any of them. Got another birdie on my 15th hole, the 5th to get back to level par. On my penultimate hole a made a stupid bogey to fall to 1 over again. A par at the last and I was round in 4 under 67. It looks like it my be one too many but we will have to wait and see. Happy with the way I played today but the mistakes I made yesterday looks like they may have cost me. David
