October 2002
30 October, Getting Ready for Tour School
It has been a fairly quiet month hence the lack of news to tell you. I
entered the Peugeot International Europro Tour event at the Players Club
in Bristol at the beginning of the month and played great. I shot three
71s for a tie of 15th, 5 off the winning mark and won a massive £487.50!
After that I went down to Deal to play in the 'Grand Match' between former
Ryder Cup and Walker Cup players organised by Peter Alliss & co, which
was great fun. On 14 October I went across to Holland for the Fortis Bank
Challenge Open on the Challenge Tour as first reserve, but amazingly didn't
get to tee it up. It sometimes happen at this time of year, as everyone
is looking for a place to play. The field was only 120 instead of the
usual 150, so that did not help either. Since then I have been practicing
in Edinburgh, having returned to my former coach Ian Young at Braid Hills.
I worked a lot with Ian before I turned pro and he is a good teacher,
plus he played the European Tour as well, so he's 'been there'. Everything
is in good shape for Stage 2 of the European Tour School next week at
the PGA Golf de Catalunya, near Barcelona in Spain. It is a four round
event and I just need to put four solid rounds together rather than get
the Tiger A Game out, although that would be bad! I'll keep you updated
from Spain. Cheers for now, David
